COLCHESTER UNITED manager Steve Whitton has targeted fleet-footed Norwich City frontrunner Adrian Coote as the man he wants to lead his attack this season.
The 22-year-old is currently out-of-action with a knee injury, but Whitton is expected to make a concerted effort to tempt him away from Carrow Road.
United have money to burn following the £2.25 million sale of Lomana Lua Lua to Newcastle last year and it is widely anticipated that Whitton will be forced to smash the club's transfer record if he is to land Coote.
"Adrian Coote is only one of several strikers that I have been looking at," he affirmed.
"I have some money to spend, but it has to be a deal that is right for Colchester United. Coote is tall and quick, but he has been struggling with injury. Any deal is still some way down the line."
Coote, whose mother is the cousin of former Norwich City and Northern Ireland manager Bryan Hamilton, has international pedigree after turning out for Sammy McIlroy's men on a number of occasions.
