Rochdale manager Keith Hill believes Stockport County 'thoroughly deserved' their League Two play-off final victory.
Stockport triumphed 3-2 at Wembley on Monday to secure their return to the third tier after a three-year absence.
Hill admits The Hatters were good value for their success, but is already challenging his players to bounce back from their disappointment and go one better next season.
"Stockport thoroughly deserved to win, but it could have gone either way," he told Sky Sports 2.
"We gave it our all, but I think the lion's share of possession went to Stockport.
"Our lads had a fighting chance but when we went 3-1 down we were probably a bit unfortunate. But overall I think Stockport thoroughly deserved to go up.
"The lads are devastated but deserve a lot of credit for the season they have had, and ultimately we will get stronger from this experience.
"We've had a tremendous season and we have a lot to be proud of. Hopefully we can taste what we had today again in the future but with a little more success.
"The supporters have been absolutely superb, but we want success on a regular basis. We fell at the final hurdle. We will build on this and aim to get promoted next season."
