Stockport County boss Jim Gannon is backing the club to build on its promotion to League One.

"I hope that we become a role model for all clubs at this level."
Jim Gannon Quotes of the week

The Hatters impressed against Rochdale in the League Two play-off final at Wembley on Monday, running out 3-2 winners.

And Gannon has set his sights on guiding the club to further success as he looks to add to the foundation of young talent he already has at Edgeley Park.

"Why couldn't that (reaching the Championship) happen again? It would be tougher now but this club is on the up," he said.

Role model

"We play young players and that is what our level of football should be about.

"It should be a breeding ground for good footballers and good football, not full of journeymen playing out time on their careers.

"I hope that we become a role model for all clubs at this level.

"Over the past two years we have brought through a group of young players who, given the right circumstances, could play really good, effective football.

"It would be nice to keep them together but some of them are destined for great things.

"We have always had the philosophy that if the right offer comes in we would allow them to discuss it with those clubs."
