Stuttgart have confirmed that they are prepared to talk to Bayern Munich about selling Mario Gomez.

The Bundesliga champions are keen to land the prolific goalscorer this summer as they attempt to build a squad capable of challenging for the UEFA Champions League title next season.

Gomez has been mooted as a top target for Bayern and Stuttgart would now appear to be ready to sell if the price is right.

Invitation

"Bayern have invited us (to talks) and we have accepted their invitation," VfB board chairman Dieter Hundt told ARD television.

General manger Horst Heldt will meet Bayern officials on Friday to discuss details of a possible move.

Stuttgart are believed to be interested in bringing unhappy Bayern striker Lukas Podolski to the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion, but Munich bosses have insisted that they are not prepared to let the Germany international go.

Gomez scored 28 goals in all competitions for Stuttgart last season, but has been unable to translate that form to the European Championship, missing an open goal in Germany's 1-0 win over Austria on Monday.
