PSV EINDHOVEN have revealed that an unnamed English side have made a firm enquiry about Kevin Hofland and Mark van Bommel within the last week, with Arsenal and Newcastle United being suggested as the mystery club.

PSV have given prize assets Hofland and Mateja Kezman until May 1 to decide their futures, while the club seem to have accepted the fact that van Bommel's future lies away from De Eredivisie.

Both Kezman and Hofland have been strongly linked with a move away from the Philips Stadion, but the Dutch club have told them that they want a decision by May 1.

Chairman Harry van Raaij has now revealed that an unnamed English side has shown an interest in both Hofland and van Bommel.

"The club have asked for one week to think about the deal, but May 1 is May 1," said van Raaij.

"I am waiting on tomorrow with much anticipation."

Arsenal have long been admirers of Hofland and van Bommel, but face obvious competiton for both players.

A string of Italian clubs plus Leeds have looked at van Bommel as a potential summer signing, whilst Manchester United's interest in Hofland can never be overlooked.

The more intriguing suggestion is that Bobby Robson could be ready to plunder his old club for both players.

Newcastle have already told their elderly boss that he has more than enough money to lure the players he wants in the summer - after their qualification for the Champions League.

After being linked with Jaap Stam recently, Robson stated that he has already targeted a new defender who is better than the former Manchester United stopper, leading to suggestions that Hofland was the player in question.

"I have someone in mind who is better than Jaap Stam," said Robson.

Like Hofland and van Bommel, Kezman's future appears in doubt - although it remains to be seen whether the plethora of interested press home their interest in the Yugoslav.

If Kezman does leave, the most likely destination is Serie A, with Roma and Juventus' interest seemingly the strongest.
