FC Utrecht manager Ton du Chatinier has admitted that Thursday's game against Liverpool is a step up from previous opponents Celtic.

The Dutch side defeated the Hoops 4-2 on aggregate in their Europa League qualifier to make it into the group stages after roaring back from 2-0 down in the first leg to win the second 4-0 at the Stadion Galgenwaard.

Liverpool, despite their dismal start to the domestic season, have not lost to a Dutch side since they were beaten by Ajax in 1966 and boss Roy Hodgson has opted to take a strong squad out as he looks to rediscover some form.

Du Chatinier is expecting a tough night against the five-time champions, who have included star striker Fernando Torres in the team.

But he has used his options available by asking assistant Jan Wouters to contact his former Rangers boss and current Birmigham manager Alex McLeish for some inside information.

Better

"Liverpool are a better team than Celtic, with all respect," said the Utrecht boss.

"We have asked people in England and Jan has spoken to Alex McLeish.

"We've watched Liverpool's home game against Steaua Bucharest (a 4-1 win) and the match at Manchester United (a 3-2 defeat).

"There's no need to show my players pictures of Rambo (the Sylvester Stallone character who is an expert in one-man warfare)

"The motivation of playing Liverpool will be enough.

"I am anxious to know what my team will do but that is normal, I'm not afraid."
