Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams is 'very excited' by the appointment of Paul Ince as the club's new manager.

Ince has agreed a three-year contract to replace former Manchester United team-mate Mark Hughes at Ewood Park and will be presented to the media on Tuesday.

He leaves Milton Keynes Dons after just one season with the club, during which he won the League Two title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Williams is aware that there is a risk factor in appointing Ince ahead of more established managers such as Sam Allardyce, Steve McClaren and Michael Laudrup.

But the Rovers chairman is confident that the club can continue to thrive under the management of the former England international.

Up for it

"I'm very excited by the appointment," said Williams in The Sun.

"We've had a very long and thorough process and we're very pleased to get Paul. Judging by his reaction he's really up for it.

"I don't know what the fans' reaction will be. It's a risk whoever you appoint.

"But I believe that Paul will do a very good job for us."

He added in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We had some very impressive candidates on our list.

"But Paul Ince has come out on top and I think he will prove to be an outstanding manager."
