This week the European Tour swings back into action following a short Christmas and New Year break. South Africa will again play host with the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club hosting the Joburg Open for the third year running. The man of the moment is local favourite Richard Sterne who will not only be bidding to defend the title he won 12 months ago, but also to claim a hat-trick of wins following his victories at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the South African Open Championship on his last two outings.
Across the pond, the PGA Tour's 2009 season gets underway with the Mercedes-Benz Championship at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Hawaii. The event throws together all the winners from the 2008 PGA Tour season and although Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson will all be missing, the likes of Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Anthony Kim, Adam Scott, Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas will be teeing it up this week.
