Amir Khan's career suffered a sensational setback on Saturday night as he was knocked out inside a minute by unheralded Colombian Breidis Prescott at the MEN Arena in Manchester.
Previously undefeated as a professional, Khan was stopped in just 54 seconds by Prescott who simply had too much power for the Olympic silver medallist.
Observers have questioned both Khan's tactics and also the decision of his camp to put him in with the big-hitting South American who came with an impressive KO record.
His dreams of a world title shot now look in tatters with the Bolton-based fighter facing a long, hard road to get his career back on track.
Khan and his team insist he will learn from the defeat and come back stronger, but what does the stoppage mean for his future prospects?
Can he overcome the disappointment and go on to establish himself as a British and world great or will he now struggle to make the grade as a top-level professional? Send us your views.
Wayne McCullough says British ring legends Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe can dominate this year.
Sky Sports' top team of pundits tell us who they are tipping to make a name for themselves in 2009.
The Hitman bounced back in style, Joe Calzaghe stayed perfect and the Golden Boy lost his shine.

Surely you cannot write Khan off after one defeat? The man has exceptional hand speed, natural talent and great lateral movement. He won an olympic silver medal - the games house the most technically proficient fighters on the planet (pro and am). He doesn't have a glass jaw, yeah he goes down, but every other time he's got straight up - no jelly legs - he got caught with a shot that anyone in his division would have stayed down from. Give him 3 years with Roach and he will become champion, he just needs to learn the whole game - not just one way of fighting.

Khan is over rated, he isnt the boxer that people think he is and iv said that since he started.I have always said he cant take a punch and new the outcome would be this with prescott as he hits hard.If he cant take a punch now hes not going to be able to take one in a few years...

Khan needs to become a counter puncher, jab and move style,if he stands in front and trys to brawl 9 times out of 10 the same thing will happen.

You seriously cannot rate Amir Khan with Muhammed Ali. Although Ali got knocked down, he could take a punch. I'm afraid to say to all you Amir Khan fans that he's not all that. His ambitions of becoming a champion within the next few years have vanished. It will take a hell of a lot for him to even challenge for the belt, never mind win it.

All the talk about Khan's age is irrelevant. If he can't take a punch at 21,he won't be able to take a punch at 23 or 25 etc. Khan is just another over protected, overrated British boxer. The latest in a long line!People back him,yet slag off genuine world champions like Calzaghe and Hatton. As the yanks would say: "Go figure"

i've been telling people for the past two years khan would lose the first time he faced a real puncher, regardless of their boxing skill. the most anoying things are; 1. he's earnt more money than some world champions; 2. all the so call experts that backed him and were suprised he lost !! he's also very big for a lightweight so can't drop a weight, but can't take a dig from a lightweight and so can't go up to lightwelter. and i'm surprised barry m rated him, thought he should know better !

In all honesty I personally thought that Khan was overrated, overhyped and nothing special. But you have to look at his age. How old is he? He¿s still young and has talent. Fair enough he got knocked out in the first round but how many boxers in his division would have took a punch like that and got up. He needs proper training and given time he can become a champion. He has the skills and the speed and just needs to spar with better fighters. But people need to stop knocking the guy. Muhammad Ali the greatest fighter ever also lost a fight. So Amir Khan losing a fight isn¿t a big deal he still has a long career ahead of him and I believe he'll come back a better fighter.

kHAN deserves all the bad comments he gets. He beleived his own hype and got knocked out. The man has a glass jaw and no training in the world is going to change that. He talks about becoming a champ, but that is never going to happen unless he fights for a made up title. There is to much talent at his weight, their are real fighters who can throw punces and take them. To think he was talking about moving up a weight before he had actually even accomplished anything at lightweight. If he had moved up and fought say Hatton(like he said he wanted to) he would have been killed or left in a hospital bed. Its about time the world woke up to the joke that Amir is and stopped backing glass jaw Khan.

so many negative comments, but why because isnt that good in a way that he got knocked out if not then explain why, but my reason on why its good for him is that a pro his age with the carrer ahead of him has to learn these things and i think this is a step towards successful acheivements from amir khan, because lyk all pro boxers hes gonna bounce back, and my opinion would be backed by those who know what boxing is about. and not only bouce back but show more hunger and thirst for a world title and to acheive that we will all see positive things from amir khan in the future. ni lets watch calzaghe knock jones out !!!

Khan had it coming to him he walked around talking about world titles beating guys in 2 mins and when he meets someone half decent he gets hammered. But dont worry any one remember kiko martinez who knocked out bernard dunne he lost his next fight so chin up (pardon the pun) just work your way back and beat all these nobodies and youll get your rematch

This was a long time coming! Khan is a plastic fighter with a glass jaw. This is what you get when you cross a second rate fighter with Frank Warren. He put's them up against rubbish fighters to make them look good while making as much money as possible. The fighter then gets too big for his boots, wants to pick his own fights and gets knocked out in the first round. I've always said Khan couldn't take a punch and now its been proven. He's a joke.

Khan wont make a come back he has a real problem with left hooks and these are just slow left hooks.Khan has it in his head he wants to retire young at the age of 27 and hes 21 now and look at the weight class hes in and the fighters there he will not beat any of them. As for this come back of his if he wants to do that and prove any one wrong he needs to fight prescott again ,if hes so smart and knows how to beat him.He should also be made to go over to fight in columbia like a real champion instead of makeing him come to england.

the problem with khan is his eagerness to please people. he has not got the chin to be a brawler aka a fighter on the inside. BUT im not counting him out at all, i think it was good that this happened (not him getting hurt!) at this early stage where he can work on not letting that happen again. people may question whether he can comeback from such a devastating knockout but just look at him the next day straight back into the gym, he defo has the physical power speed and mentality to be a great boxer 1 day, BUT only if he chooses to become a defensive/counterpunching boxer a smart boxer, not a brawler knockout artist, because he does not have the chin to be that kinda fighter. Good luck with wateva Amir! im still behind you all the way....

Very sad to see Amir getting KOed in such a way but we all saw it coming. Yes Amir has shown that he doesn't have the Chin to be one of the greats, however he has the skill to pick up a world title at some point (If Gavin Rees can get his hands on a world belt then Amir can get at the very least 1 )there is no doubt he'll get a world title at some point but he'll never hold onto one with a chin as weak as he has, its just fact. He was in the gym the next day saying he lost to the best man, now thats a champion in my eyes. Good on ya Amir. Keep going it was never meant to be easy, respect other fighters and respect POWER.
