Werder Bremen moved up to second place in the Bundesliga on Sunday after edging past nine-man Hertha Berlin.
Elsewhere, Cologne saw off Hoffenheim to pick up their first home victory of the 2011/12 campaign.
Werder Bremen left it late before seeing off depleted Hertha Berlin.
Adrian Ramos put the visitors in front in the third minute, but Claudio Pizarro levelled after 23 minutes.
Hertha were then reduced to nine men with Christian Lell and Ramos shown red cards between the 57th and 63rd minutes.
However, Bremen only managed to capitalise on their two-man advantage deep in stoppage time when Pizarro nodded in the winner.
Lukas Podolski scored one goal and set up another as Cologne beat Hoffenheim 2-0.
Podolski set up Mato Jajalo's opening goal for Cologne in the 20th minute and made it 2-0 after 64 minutes.
It was Cologne's third win in their last four games after a disappointing start to their campaign.
