Barry: Reds target
Aston Villa have confirmed they have turned down a "renewed offer" from Liverpool for midfielder Gareth Barry.
Reds manager Rafael Benitez has already had three bids for the 27-year-old England international turned down by Villa, who disciplined Barry on Wednesday for speaking out against manager Martin O'Neill.
A report in England on Wednesday speculated a £17million bid had been tabled for Villa's long-serving midfielder, but the Midlands outfit have confirmed The Reds' actual offer was well below their valuation of the star.
"The report in today's paper of a £17million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate," read a statement of the club's official website.
"The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected."
