Lampard: New five-year contract
I'm personally very happy and I hope I've made the Chelsea fans happy.
Frank Lampard
Quotes of the week
Chelsea have announced midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard, 30, had been the subject of summer-long speculation as former boss Jose Mourinho attempted to lure the England international to Inter Milan.
The Serie A outfit bid for Lampard in July, but Chelsea swiftly rejected the approach, reported to be in the region of £9.75million.
And Lampard has now ended further conjecture regarding his future by penning a deal which ties him to Chelsea and is likely to see him end his playing career in West London.
"We've signed my new contract today," Lampard - whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2008/09 season - told Chelsea TV on Wednesday.
"I'm personally very happy and I hope I've made the Chelsea fans happy. I've had seven great seasons here and now I can have many more.
"It's been a difficult summer for many reasons and that was one of the frustrating things, a lot of things were said that were untrue, some things were said that were slightly true and that was frustrating. Now we can put that to bed and concentrate on football."
Lampard, who had previously hinted at an interest in a reunion with Mourinho, has also thanked Chelsea for giving him time to consider his options following the death of his mother.
"My world got turned upside down and I don't think it is anything anyone appreciates until you go through it," added Lampard. "The club gave me time and I appreciate that.
"I feel for sure I've made 100 per cent the right decision, for myself, for my family and for Chelsea football club."
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has explained that the reason for the delay in reaching an agreement was because it was a major decision for all parties.
"These are big issues for the club, for Frank and any other player," said Kenyon.
"Whatever has gone on I think there is that underlying desire that we get there. It's taken both Frank and the club longer than we originally thought."

I'm sorry but am I the only one who thinks he totally milked the situation dry. An appalling amount of money particularly in the current economic climate. Ok the press potray a picture and who knows what is true. One minute he wants to be away and now it's he can't bear to leave his family and suddenly he's the highest paid english footballer with a 5 year contract. Ok all footballers are greedy but he's top of the pile. I'd liked to have seen him go and see how he copes in a different football environment.

Calling Lampard 'Chelsea through-and-through' is ridiculous and naive. Don't fool yourselves, people. He considered moving because he felt slighted on the money-end. He stayed after months of renegotiating his money. If he was Chelsea through-and-through it wouldn't have been such an issue. He is a good player, no doubt, but very few people have the loyalty of a Ryan Giggs.

To everyone saying how loyal he is for finally signing a new deal and rejected a move to Inter. Would this be the same Lampard who not so long agorefused a 4 year deal at around 130k a week? Demanding 5 years or he was off next summer for free? I wouldnt exactly say thats loyalty tbh.

Of course it's great news. At the hight of Paul Scholes career he scored 20 goals 2 seasons running. Lampard has now done it 5 in all competitions, not only that but he scores BIG important goals and never stops running for the whole season. A true box to box player. And as for loyalty? It's only natural to look at options especially seeing as he just turned 30 but to anyone who questions the loyalty i'd ask this..... Where's franky seeing out his career? Exactly! Remember when Gerrard wanted to join the blues? The abuse he took from scouse was appaling. Lampard would have went with our blessing had he went. And i think that(as well as a shed load of cash) is why he stayed. To criticise the guy for holding out for a better deal is terrible too! Who here doesn't try and negotiate the best possible deal for ourselves? The unemployed and the idiots, that's who! COME ON CHELSEA!!!!!!!!!!

As a Chelsea fan, I'm so glad to know that Lamps is staying at the bridge and could be looking to end his career there, from my opinion I think he is one of the most greatest players to play for Chelsea at the moment; he means alot to the club, it comes 2nd in his life, when his mother passed away, the players and everyone else at the club gave it a 110% in consolation for him, that shows that Chelsea do care about him alot, I believe he will play his best season for the club this year but lets just hope for the best.

YAWN! Chelsea shelve out £30 million to prove to any doubters left that they really have more money than sense. Is it any wonder they are now loathed more than Man Utd? Chucking money around and buying their way to titles. They have created a culture of greed at the top of football and it's affected their own players. Do Chelsea fans really believe Frank loves the club when he looked at offers from elsewhere and insisted on more than £30m but had to compromise? I now realise why he kisses his badge so often. The sweet smell of £££'s. No soul; no sense; no class....

Fantastic news, i was so happy when we announced the news! Lampard has got better and better every year since we signed him in 2001 and he does guarentee you 15-20 goals a year. I cant believe that people still slag him off, i really cant? He was voted Englands best player two years in a row and then he had one bad patch in the world cup, admitidly it came at a very bad time, and everyone slags him off? Its better to have a bad patch then play rubbish most of the game and only show up for ten minutes a game like a certain scouse midfielder i know. Frank Lampard is a world class player and i cant wait to see him in blue untill 2014!

Well well.... I'm NOT a chelsea fan by a country mile, but congratulate them on a really good piece of news for them, and english football. If your star man agrees to stay with you with a club like barca and inter interested, it's BIG news. Anybody that wishes to criticise him is purely envious of what chelsea have achieved, albeit with blood money, but achieved all the same. I think Deco will prove a big no-no so this will really help them. I DO wish however, that Liverpool fans here would stop whining! I love liverpool i really do (even tho im a hammer..) but frankly, the conduct of the manager and fans over the last two years whining about not getting thier own way over finance and players all the time when in truth, theve spent far more than most, has been frankly appalling. Tell you what, get yourself a manager, although rafa is incredibly talented, with a little decorum, then moan about your problems. You have it a lot better than most...Take spurs..(please) Personally? I loathe them, but i feel so sorry for them right now.Buying 4 quality players that fans must be drooling about to strengthen that rubbish midfield, then losing the best group of forwards they've had in years! Doh! Best of luck to the new boys, be good to see at least ONE of you stay up, especially Hull. One last thought...how in HELL does Blatter get away with criticising us or individual english teams all the time. If any other impartial (HAH! ) business figurehead did this, they'd be fired immediately. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALDERSHOT TOWN!!! up the shots!

It is indeed a big news for Chelsea and Manchester United fans who r saying he can play well only upto 33 and after that he is useless,i would like to remind you all about your greats Giggs n scholes,de r also 34-35 but still they are under contract? Why?Why Fergusson did not cash in on them?he would have brought a younger midfielder. You need sunh kind of influential players, even they are older, their experience makes difference. At least he is loyal to club, not like Henry as i am not winning trophies at Arsenal,So i love Barcelona now...Gimme a break....

Fantastic News.. I am so pleased for both Frank and the club for finally securing the future of Lampard's Chelsea career. Any person who can say Lampard should have been sold is either a non Chelsea fan or a frightened rival. There is no other player in world football that has been as consistent as Lampard has for their respectful club as Frank has been for Chelsea. 20 goals every season and countless assists for others is what he brings to the club and there is no other player on the planet that can do that season after season like Lampard has done for Chelsea over the last few years. Anyone who thinks Lampard cannot pass or create are talking out of their backside and if Chelsea secure the signature of Robinho and now that Drogba too has decided to stay at the club then the title is looking Stamford Bridge bound and only a bitter rival fan will disagree. The 5 year deal that will see Lampard play out the rest of his career at the club which he obviously loves is the best signing so far this season for me. Chelsea have captured the most prolific midfield player in modern football, the most consistent and the most productive and any person who thinks that Chelsea have made a mistake by keeping Lampard will be proved as usual very wrong in their assumption. Lampard is a key player at Chelsea and always has been for the last few seasons and to sell a player who can almost guarantee 20 goals a season and another 20 assists for others is like writing off 40 goals a season which constitutes to a club mounting a serious title challenge or trophy haul. That is FACT!

Good news for any Chelsea Fan. I thought Lampard was a fairly average player before I went to the City v Chelsea game at the bridge last season (carling cup, 4-3)... He outplayed everybody on the feild, you dont appreciate how good he is until you see him in person... Good luck lampard.

I don't normally comment on other teams news but after reading Kevin Murphy's comment about ''a certain overated scouse'' which obviously he is talking Steven Gerrard, who from what i saw of the champions league season of 2004/05,he literally dragged them to victory single handed, not only in the final when he took the game by the scruff of the neck when his team was 3-0 down at half time to come back and win but do you not also remember the goal in the last minute against Olympiakos?

Great!!! it's really a good news to see Franck staying at chelsea rather than going to italy or Spain. He is 30 and has proved what a brilliant player he is for his club and for his country, you have to be a non chelsea fan to criticise his decision for staying at the Bridge. I honestly think Lamps made a wise decision, it is the best option for him to end his career on a high. Well done Franck, you have my 100% support! Come on chelsea, let's go again for the four trophies!

That announcement is an absolute joke. Lampard will only be playing decent football for possibly the next 2 or 3 years before being edged out by a younger and better player. Chelsea should have cashed in on him while they could and get a younger player on half the wages that he's on now. That really is a bad bit of business, but hey ho. Chelsea have got more money than sense. Absolutely ridiculous, and Lampard, if you're reading this, you've defrauded your own club!

This is big news, lampard has the ability to turn games around at the drop of a hat. And to the people that think that it is a stupid idea to have him sign a new contract now because we might want to get rid of him soon, the fact that he has signed a big new contract means that we'll get more money for him if we do decide to sell him. I still wish we found out we got kaka though.

Any chelsea fan who is dissapointed at the BIG news is mad, Lampard, Essien, Deco, Ballack, Mikel just think of the possibilities. I am already licking my lips in anticipation. And I don't think this is the end of out transfer dealings yet, so watch this space.
