Shorey: Attracting attention
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his desire to sign Reading left-back Nicky Shorey.
Reading's relegation last season has seen a number of their prize assets become the subjects of attention from elsewhere.
The likes of Dave Kitson, Stephen Hunt, James Harper and Kevin Doyle have all been linked with moves away from the Madejski Stadium, with Shorey the latest to attract attention.
Having broken into the England squad in the past couple of years, Shorey will likely be loath to drop out of the Premier League and Redknapp could potentially offer him a top flight reprieve.
Redknapp told The News: "Nicky Shorey is a player I like. He's a good player and a good footballer.
"We're looking for players who would give us something a bit different and he would do that. He would give us something different to Hermann Hreidarsson. Having said that, Hermann did a fantastic job for us and was brilliant for me.
"But we are going to need a squad and we are going to need cover. We are going to be playing more games than ever next season and it's going to be a lot tougher for us."
Redknapp has already raided Reading to bring winger Glen Little to Fratton Park.
