Hughes: Back in squad

Aaron Hughes has been included in Northern Ireland's squad for next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers.

The national team captain missed the 3-1 win over Liechtenstein last week due to an ankle injury, with Chris Baird standing in as skipper.

But Hughes, who is still to make his debut for Fulham after joining from Aston Villa, has been selected for the games against Latvia and Iceland.

Coach Nigel Worthington has named a 24-man squad for the qualifying double-header and has stuck with the players who were called up to face Liechtenstein.

Sean Webb and Stuart Elliott were late additions for that game, but have been included from the off this time around.

Northern Ireland, who are second in Group F, play Latvia in Riga on 8th September and Iceland in Reykjavik four days later.

Squad: Maik Taylor (Birmingham City), Roy Carroll Rangers), Alan Mannus (Linfield); Michael Duff (Burnley), Chris Baird, Aaron Hughes (Fulham), Gareth McAuley (Leicester City), Stephen Craigan (Motherwell), Tony Capaldi (Cardiff City), George McCartney (West Ham United), Sean Webb (Ross County), Jonathan Evans (Manchester United); Keith Gillespie (Sheffield United), Steven Davis (Fulham), Sammy Clingan (Nottingham Forest), Chris Brunt (West Bromwich Albion), Steve Jones (Burnley), Grant McCann (Barnsley), Stuart Elliott (Hull City), Damien Johnson (Birmingham City); Warren Feeney (Cardiff City), David Healy (Fulham), Kyle Lafferty (Burnley), Ivan Sproule (Bristol City).
