Frank Lampard remains doubtful for England's Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia on Wednesday.

A thigh injury prevented Lampard from taking part in the 3-0 victory over Israel on Saturday, when Gareth Barry impressed alongside Steven Gerrard in central midfield.

McClaren declared last week that Lampard had a 50-50 chance of being fit for the crucial clash against Russia, and the Chelsea player will now return to his club for more treatment before a decision is taken.

Asked how his injured thigh was, Lampard told Sky Sports News: "Okay.

Asked if he would be staying with the England squad, he answered: "No. back to Chelsea."

Owen delight

Michael Owen was thrilled with the way he scored England's second goal, an instinctive strike into the corner from 20 yards.

The striker, who burst onto the international scene with a stunning goal against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup, admits his latest effort was one of his best.

"I've had a few texts already saying it was probably my second best goal for England," he said.

"I don't score many goals from outside the box but I caught that one well. I probably scored the hardest chance I had."
