Watford maintained their position at the top of the Championship with a 2-1 win over strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at Vicarage Road.

It is now 20 points from nine games for Watford following early goals from Darius Henderson and Marlon King, with Graham Kavanagh pulling one back for Wednesday.

Charlton jumped back into the second automatic promotion spot with a 2-1 victory at Hull.

Barnsley 3-0 Bristol City

Barnsley moved up to fourth place in the Championship after running out 3-0 winners against promotion rivals Bristol City.

Late goals from Brian Howard (67), Dennis Souza (72) and a Martin Devaney strike two minutes from time wrapped up the points at Oakwell.

Burnley 2-2 Ipswich

Burnley and Ipswich shared the spoils at Turf Moor.

Ipswich took an early two-goal lead following strikes by Sylvain Legwinski (7) and Alan Lee (9).

But the home team got back into the match just two minutes later when Kyle Lafferty halved the deficit and then Andy Gray scored the equaliser on 60 minutes.

Coventry 3-1 Blackpool

Coventry moved up to fifth in the Championship with a 3-1 home victory over Blackpool.

The visitors took the lead following an Andy Morrell goal on 32 minutes, but the home team were level just before half-time with Michael Doyle's 44th minute penalty.

The Sky Blues then took the lead with a Michael Mifsud goal on 69 minutes, before Blackpool's Kaspars Gorkiss received his marching orders on 81 minutes for a professional foul.

Coventry then wrapped up the points through a Robbie Simpson strike on 86 minutes.

Hull City 1-2 Charlton

Charlton moved back into the second automatic promotion spot with a 2-1 victory at Hull.

They took the lead on 41 minutes when Luke Varney found the net, but both teams were then reduced to ten men when Ian Ashbee and Lloyd Sam were sent off for violent conduct in the 44th minute.

Charlton sealed the points through a Chris Iwelumo strike on 89 minutes, but Hull pulled one back thanks to Stephen McPhee in the 92nd minute.

Leicester 0-0 Wolves

Midlands rivals Leicester and Wolves shared a goalless draw at the Walkers Stadium which leaves Leicester boss Gary Megson still looking for his first victory in charge of the Foxes.

Norwich 0-0 Scunthorpe

The Canaries dropped into the drop zone after this goalless draw with high-flying Scunthorpe in front of 23,176 fans at Carrow Road.

Plymouth 1-0 Crystal Palace

Peter Halmosi scored the winner on 50 minutes to secure all three points for the home team against Palace at Home Park.

Preston North End 5-1 Southampton

Preston North End jumped out of the relegation zone in spectacular style with a 5-1 mauling of Southampton at Deepdale.

Karl Hawley opened the scoring for Preston on 12 minutes, but Southampton were back level just after the re-start with a Billy Jones own goal (48).

But Preston then ran out easy winners with goals from Darren Carter (58), Chris Sedgwick (75) and Patrick Agyemang (83 and 94).

Sheffield Utd 3-3 Cardiff City

Two late goals earned Sheffield United a point in this six-goal thriller at Bramall Lane.

James Beattie opened the scoring for the home team on 18 minutes, before Cardiff scored three in a row through Joe Ledley (31), Robbie Fowler (47 pen) and Gavin Rae (59).

But The Blades hit back in the dying minutes of the game through Chris Armstrong (85) and Chris Morgan (92).

Watford maintained their position at the top of the Championship with a 2-1 win over strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at Vicarage Road.

Early goals from Darius Henderson (6) and a 16th minute penalty by Marlon King gave the home team a two-goal lead, but Graham Kavanagh pulled one back for Wednesday on 36 minutes.

To compound a miserable night, the visitors had Jermaine Johnson sent off in the 89th minute for violent conduct.
