Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has accepted Uefa's decision to fine the club in the wake of the Dida incident at Parkhead.

Milan goalkeeper Dida was slapped by a Celtic supporter at the end of last week's dramatic UEFA Champions League match.

There was speculation that Celtic could be punished heavily, but Lawwell believes a fine of £25,000 is fair for failing to keep the supporter of the pitch.

"As a club we feel this penalty is proportionate to the incident in question and a fair outcome," Lawwell told Celtic's official website.

"Celtic Football Club took this matter extremely seriously and following an immediate internal investigation took swift and firm action against the offender in question.

"Celtic Football Club will continue to take all organisational, security and health and safety matters as its first priority.

"We have one of the best health and safety records in Europe and we will continue to work to ensure that Celtic Park remains one of the finest Champions League venues in the game."

Justice on Dida

Dida has been suspended for two Champions League games for feigning injury and Peter Rafferty, President of the Affiliation of Celtic Supporters Clubs, believes he deserved to be punished.

"Uefa must see that as justice being done and that is a problem for Milan," he said.

"I'm just delighted with the decision on Celtic."
