Elding: Suspension

Stockport have suspended striker Anthony Elding for seven days as they investigate whether he tried to initiate a move to another club.

County are looking into a potential breach of contract and Elding may also have broken Football League rule 66.4 that prevents a player from directly or indirectly approaching another club with a view to securing a transfer.

Stockport, who currently sit 16th in League Two, insist that they do not want the investigation to damage preparations for their derby fixture with Chester City on Saturday.

"We have to take difficult decisions as we protect our integrity and our contractual rights," Stockport's managing director Mark Maguire told County's official website.

"We hope this matter is resolved as quickly as possible and we would ask all our fans to get right behind the team in Saturday's important Cheshire derby against Chester City."

The suspension means Elding, who has scored six times in 10 league outings so far this season, will miss the Edgeley Park clash with Chester.
