Middlesbrough keeper Mark Schwarzer says his team-mates are not too good to go down.

The Australian international was a member of the Riverside team who were relegated from the Premier League back in 1997.

Although Boro are currently 15th in the table, they are just a point above third from bottom Fulham with nine games played.

With many tipping Gareth Southgate's side for a season of struggle, Schwarzer is urging his colleague to remove any complacency now.

"It would be foolish for anyone at the club to consider we've too many class players to go down," explained Schwarzer.

"That's what everybody said 10 years ago in what was my first season at the club - and look what happened.

"No team can afford complacency, least of all us. We've given away far too many soft goals in recent matches and must put an end to that.

"Our defending just hasn't been good enough. Of course, I'm part of that too but we've been training well and I'm sure we can put things right."
