Wainwright: Something to prove

Shrewsbury have signed Neil Wainwright on a one-month loan deal from Darlington.

The winger, 29, who was the fans' Player of the Year at Darlington last season, goes straight into the squad for the visit of Mansfield this weekend.

Wainwright has made close to 250 appearances for the Quakers since joining from Sunderland but has found himself out of favour with manager Dave Penney this season.

Fear

Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters told the club's official website: "Whenever we've played against Darlington he's a player who always puts fear into us, he's someone you don't want to be in the opposition side.

"He's an attacking right winger who runs at people and gets crosses in but he does work hard.

"He's coming here with something to prove because he'd like to do well as a move here would suit him.

"He's on a month's loan to start with and we'll see how it goes - I've seen him a lot over the years and always been impressed."
