Billy Davies has told Giles Barnes to show more respect to his Derby team-mates.

The highly-rated winger played a starring role for The Rams last season as they gained promotion from the Championship.

A foot injury kept him on the sidelines for the start of Derby's Premier League campaign, and he only returned to the starting line-up in last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Everton.

Davies has been full of praise for Barnes in the past but he has told the winger to be careful that he does not become arrogant.

"Giles is still immature in a lot of aspects," the Derby boss said in The Sun.

"He needs to be humble at times and sit back and respect his team-mates, show respect to the senior players and understand it's not all about himself."

Davies expects Barnes to have a bright future in the Premier League but believes it will take time for him to fulfil his potential.

He explained: "We tend to build him up too much at times and look at him as a Messiah. He's not.

Not the finished article

"He's a young player with a lot of genuine potential to do very well at the top level.

"But he's not the finished article by a long way, and still has a lot to work on.

"There are still may flaws in his game and also has to understand it's not all about Giles Barnes.

"It's a team sport and it's about 16 players who are all shoulder-to-shoulder helping each other out."
