Bordeaux have joined Helsingborgs in the next round of the Uefa Cup after beating the Swedes 2-1 at the Stade Chaban-Delmas in Group H.

Helsingborgs secured their passage last week and they put up a stern fight in France, but eventually succumbed to Girondins.

Marouane Chamakh opened the scoring for the home side on 12 minutes as he raced on to a long ball from Carlos Henrique and fired home.

But the lead lasted just five minutes as veteran Henrik Larsson pounced from close range.

Helsingborgs' hopes of getting something from the game were not helped just after the hour when Adama Tamboura was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Bordeaux took advantage of the extra man just minutes later when Brazilian Jussie raced clear and rounded Daniel Andersson to score.

The win, which maintains Bordeaux's 100 per cent record, secures them top spot as they still have one game to play - whilst Helsingborgs' group campaign is complete.

Sorrow in Vienna

In the other match in Group H, an injury-time winner from Ivica Majstorovic gave Panionios a 1-0 win over Austria Vienna.

The draw would have seen both sides needing to win in their closing matches to progress - but Vienna could not hang on as Majstorovic struck in the final minute.

Now Panionios move above Galatasaray into third with one group match to play, but there is no hope for Vienna who are confined to fifth place.
