Rooney: Backing for Capello
Wayne Rooney says he is pleased with Fabio Capello's appointment as England's new manager.
Capello, who was unveiled as Steve McClaren's successor on Monday, comes with a impressive reputation after enjoying success wherever he has been.
Manchester United ace Rooney is looking forward to working with the Italian and is hopeful he can reverse England's fortunes.
"By all accounts his past record is brilliant," Rooney told Sky Sports News. "He has won leagues everywhere he has been and different cup competitions.
"I am sure he will do well for England and along with help from the players bring a trophy back to England.
"So I am sure there will be a lot of changes in the team is so hopefully it can be better for us."
Rooney has also backed England team-mate David Beckham in his bid to win his 100th cap for his country.
Beckham is currently on 99 caps and Rooney is hopeful the midfielder will get the landmark in Capello's first game in charge against Switzerland in February.
"Becks not only because we like him as a person and a friend, I think he is still good enough to play for England and that is the main thing why he should be picked.
"To get that 100th cap, I am not trying to pick the team but personally I still think he is good enough to play for England."
