Davies wants Anelka stay

Bolton striker Kevin Davies hopes Nicolas Anelka does not depart The Reebok when the January transfer window opens.

The French ace has been in impressive form for The Trotters this season, so much so that the rumour mill has been busy speculating where he may go in the New Year.

High-flyers Chelsea have been linked with a move for the former Real Madrid and Arsenal man, while Sunderland have also been tipped to make an audacious bid.

Davies is aware of the rumours surrounding his strike colleague, although he is hoping Anelka is still as happy at the club as he was last summer.

Happy

"The stories about Nico keep coming as usual but in the summer he said he was happy here so let's hope he still is," stated Davies.

"He's really important for us and we hope he'll stay. But we'll have to wait and see when the time comes and the transfer window is open.

"We're going to lose Dioufy as well for the African Cup of Nations so that would be two big players gone.

"The manager feels he has players who can step in and do jobs but it would be a big loss for us without a doubt if Nicolas was to go."
