Lampard: Injury blow

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is out for 'a few weeks' after suffering a torn thigh muscle.

Lampard picked up the injury during the 4-4 draw with Aston Villa on Boxing Day and was replaced by Michael Ballack after 26 minutes.

After the game, Blues boss Avram Grant revealed the England international was 'not happy' about having to come off with the injury.

Scans have now shown a tear to Lampard's right thigh, with the 29-year-old having suffered a similar problem in his left leg earlier in the campaign.

He is now likely to be sidelined into the New Year, with Chelsea confirming the extent of the player's injury.

Hope

"Scans today have revealed a tear in Frank Lampard's right thigh," read a club statement.

"The tear is not in the same leg that Frank injured earlier this season.

"He will begin his rehabilitation immediately and we hope to have him back playing within a few weeks."

Lampard has added his name to a lengthening injury list at Stamford Bridge, with John Terry, Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda among those currently on the treatment table.
