Koeman: Sticking to his guns

Valencia coach Ronald Koeman is standing by his decision to axe three of the team's veterans from his squad.

The former Ajax and PSV Eindhoven manager dropped David Albelda, Miguel Angel Angulo and Santiago Canizares as he looked to impose himself in Spain.

However, Los Che have struggled in December collecting just one point out of a possible nine in the month, including 3-0 defeats to Osasuna and Barcelona at the Mestalla.

Koeman knows some decisions are making him unpopular with the fans, although he is focusing his energies on bringing about a change of fortunes on the pitch.

Unpopular

"I am sure that I am more unpopular today with some people, for others I am not, but that is part of making a decision," he stated.

"If I don't have that power to decide things I can't coach a big team because there will always be a moment when you will have to make a decision.

"What we have to do is not talk any more about this topic, work, play well and win matches."
