Etherington: Three-year extension

West Ham United winger Matthew Etherington has penned a three-year extension with the Upton Park outfit.

The 26-year-old's deal had been due to expire in the summer of 2009, although he is now tied to the Premier League side until 2012.

Etherington, who joined from Tottenham back in 2003, has made 141 league appearances for the club and has three league goals this season.

Only last October, Etherington admitted his surprise at still being at Upton Park following a number of signings, but he is now looking forward after committing his future to the Hammers.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract and commit my future to West Ham," Etherington told the club's official website.

"I have always been happy here since the day I arrived and I look forward to the next four-and-a-half years."
