Bruce: Deal delight

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has spoken of his delight at completing a deal for former Spurs defender Erik Edman on Friday.

The Latics agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000 with French club Rennes as they bid to reinforce their squad.

Sweden international Edman has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Wigan and Bruce believes the signing can only benefit the club.

"Finding a left back was always going to be a transfer priority and Erik is a top international who has experience of the Premier League," he told the club's official website.

"He knows what this league is all about, and has all the attributes to become a big success at the club.

"He has a fantastic left foot and decent pace, is good in the air, brave and reads the game well.

"It's not often such experienced left backs of this quality become available and I'm not surprised so many other clubs have been interested in him. I'm delighted he's chosen to come to us."

Koumas speculation

Meanwhile, Bruce insists he has yet to be contacted by any clubs who are interested in signing midfielder Jason Koumas.

And the Wigan boss says he is keen to hold on to all members of his squad, but admits he could consider selling if the price is right.

"I keep reading speculation about Jason Koumas but that is all," Bruce told Sky Sports News. "Nobody has called. I want to keep them all, but everyone has a price in football.

"In an ideal world I would like to keep the squad, which is very healthy at the moment, together and make sure we have enough strength in depth to fight for the next three or four months."
