Duo in race for Scotland role

Burley considers Butcher and Pressley for assistant role

Last updated: 27th January 2008

George Burley has spoken to Terry Butcher and Steven Pressley about becoming his assistant manager with Scotland.

New Scotland manager George Burley will choose his No.2 in the next couple of days as he looks to sort out his backroom team.

Burley is a big admirer of Butcher and Celtic defender Pressley and he believes either man would be a good candidate for the assistant manager's role.

Meeting

"I've spoken to both of them and we'll be having a meeting early next week to try to finalise," Burley told Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.

"Both are people I know well, experienced, and top professionals.

"Steven's a young coach who's coming to the end of his playing career and has a big future I'm sure in coaching and management.

"Terry is someone I played with who did very well at Motherwell, very much a winner, very enthusiastic, motivated, and hopefully we'll get that sorted out at the beginning of next week."
