Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc believes the winter break should return in Scotland.

A mid-season break was introduced in the 1998/99 season by the Scottish Premier League but only lasted until 2003 when it was scrapped.

Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith believes the domestic game could benefit from a break especially at a time of year when many matches fall foul of the weather.

The SPL have confirmed there will not be a winter break next season but Poland international Boruc has called for it to be brought back.

"I think that there should be a winter break in the SPL," the 27-year-old told Celtic View.

"Even over Christmas time there should be two or three weeks to have a wee rest and see our families. But it's our job and we have to follow whatever rules the guys at the top of the SPL decide.

"In Poland the break actually runs for three months and you have one month off and then come back for 'pre-season'."
