Pressley: New role

Stephen McManus has backed Steven Pressley to be a success in his new role with Scotland.

Celtic defender Pressley was announced as George Burley's assistant manager on Monday.

Burley and his coaching staff are currently working with a 27-man squad at Loch Lomond for the first time since the former Southampton boss' appointment.

And McManus has expressed his confidence that team-mate Pressley will prove to be an excellent addition to the international coaching set-up.

He said: "It won't be strange working under him at Scotland. We are all professional and we will all get on with our jobs.

Very bright

"It's different for Pressley and different for the players because it's not something that he has done before and it's not something that the players have had to deal with before.

"But he is a very bright guy and I think he will do very well as a coach.

"I think it will probably help him knowing the guys at Scotland know him inside out.

"I think that is very positive but time will tell.

"We have been very impressed by the new coaching staff and what they have said and all the lads are looking forward to working with them.

"It was common sense for us to meet up and get a feeling for the manager and for him to get a feeling for the players."
