Former Spain boss Javier Clemente has agreed to manage Iran.

Iran have been without a coach since the departure of Amir Ghalenoei after they were knocked out of the Asian Cup by South Korea in the quarter-finals last July.

Clemente has been out of work since being sacked by Serbia in December after failing to guide them to Euro 2008.

Clemente will take charge of Iran for their 2010 World Cup qualification campaign and he is looking forward to the challenge.

"Yes, I've accepted the offer," Clemente told Reuters on Monday. "My aim is to help Iran learn and improve as a team."

"Last week's visit to Iran went well and it has been decided that I will go back and forth between the two countries in order to coach the team."
