Routledge: Determined

Aston Villa new boy Wayne Routledge has vowed to win a longer deal at the club.

Routledge joined Villa from Tottenham during last month's transfer window on an 18-month deal.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has challenged the winger to prove he deserves a longer contract and Routledge is ready to repay O'Neill's faith in him.

"I know players who get a million-pound-plus transfer usually sign contracts longer than 18 months but I wasn't afraid to do that deal," Routledge told the Sunday Mirror.

"Martin O'Neill has given me a chance and I've got to show him I can repay that, then hopefully he'll want to keep me longer."
