Elmander: Too pricey for Bolton

Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson admits he balked at the price for Toulouse forward Johan Elmander.

Megson confirmed his interest in the Sweden international last month, but was unable to conclude a deal before the transfer window closed.

Reports suggest Bolton were willing to pay £9million for Elmander, but Megson claims Toulouse wanted more than double that sum.

"His club wanted £22million," said Megson in The Sun. "It was never going to happen at that price."

Davies belief

Meanwhile, Kevin Davies is optimistic that Bolton can protect their 1-0 lead over Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

El Hadji Diouf's goal secured the Trotters a first-leg advantage last week and Davies is looking forward to the return meeting in Spain.

"I think it was our best result," Davies told the club's official website. "We were delighted with the win, but we know we've only done half a job.

"It will be tough, but with the team and squad we've got we know we can go through.

"It's obviously different over there, but there's a lot of pressure for them to come and have a go at us."
