Internazionale coach Roberto Mancini has had a rethink and decided to stay at the club.

Mancini announced in the aftermath of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool that he would step down at Inter at the end of the season.

The former Italian international, who has four years left on his contract, gave no reason for his decision to make the shock announcement.

However, after holding talks with Inter president Massimo Moratti, Mancini has changed his mind and will now stay in charge of the Serie A champions.

Talk

"I've had a talk with Mancini, who confirmed to me that he wanted to stay at Inter even next year and to see out his contract and he wants to win the Champions League next season," Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The situation is very different from the one that had been described to me, the club and the squad this morning."

Mancini confirmed he had changed his mind and thanked Moratti for his support.

"I hope that everyone can understand the outpourings and bitterness in such delicate moments as these. After the match it was Roberto Mancini the coach who spoke from his heart," Mancini said in a statement.

"I thank president Massimo Moratti for giving me strength, understanding the situation and understanding me. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding.

"The team already knows that we're ready to fight until the last minute, and with great intensity, to win our third Scudetto and to try to win the Champions League next season."
