King: Important player
Tottenham captain Ledley King is confident the club will emerge stronger for their Uefa Cup exertions this season.
Spurs' dream of European glory ended on Wednesday evening when they were eliminated from the competition courtesy of a penalty shoot-out defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Juande Ramos is not accustomed to tasting defeat in Europe having won the Uefa Cup in the previous two seasons while at Sevilla, and King is confident the Spaniard's new charges will soon get back to winning ways next term.
"For us to win something means that the season will still go down as a positive year for us. Now we have that taste of winning something, we believe we can go on and do more," King said.
"We still realise that we have a lot of work to do to maintain our standards of trying to win trophies and that's what we'll do. We have learnt from this and we will come back next year a stronger and better team."
King has been limited to nine appearances this season following knee surgery and his recovery will be managed for the rest of the campaign.
With European football secured and top flight safety virtually assured, there appears little to play for - but Ramos will also use the rest of the campaign to assess which players he wants to retain for next season.
Changes are anticipated at White Hart Lane with Ramos eager to bring in his own players, but King is confident there is already the nucleus of a successful squad in North London.
"We feel we have the players to win the competition, we had confidence in the team that we could get the result, but now we feel we have let it slip a little," he said.
"The first leg against PSV has cost us, we didn't play well at home."
