Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has been offered the chance to take over as the new boss of Hamburg immediately after Euro 2008.

Bilic has been linked with a number of leading roles in club management, including in the Premier League, after his impressive stint at the helm of Croatia.

The former West Ham defender guided his country to Euro 2008 after dominating a qualification group which also included Russia and England.

But with his contract due to expire after the tournament in Austria and Switzerland, Bilic has become something of a wanted man across Europe, with Hamburg the first club to make an approach.

Bilic told Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List: "They made it clear that they want me to take over the team from this summer.

"However, we haven't talked about any concrete details yet."

The Bundesliga club are in the market for a new manager with current boss Huub Stevens leaving to take over at PSV Eindhoven at the end of the current campaign.

The Croatian Football Association (HNS) remain hopeful of agreeing a new deal with the former international centre-back, but have admitted they may not be able to match the financial rewards available from Europe's leading clubs.

Bilic added: "I wouldn't like to use media as a means of communication with my employer and anyhow, there is nothing new yet.

"It is true that the Hamburg offer is an honour for me."
