Redknapp: Applauds FA move

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has backed The Football Association's announcement to invest in grassroots football.

On Tuesday, The FA announced that it will invest £200million in grassroots football over the next five years.

And Redknapp has welcomed the decision, voicing his hope that the proposals will play a key role in the development of young talent.

"Yes it is great. We need to improve facilities - there are too many pitches not being looked after," he told Sky Sports News.

"There is nothing like kids football, for me, so we need to make sure we give them the facilities and the chance keep expanding and improving.

Money and Muntari

"It has changed (since I was young) and the facilities are better, but more money needs to be put in to make them better still.

"I think we need more grass pitches. If we are going to produce players we have to put money back into the game, from the top level all the way down to the kids."

And Pompey midfielder Sulley Muntari has echoed Redknapp's thoughts, saying: "It is a great idea, and I think it will take a lot of kids from the streets and help them develop their careers."
