Blackburn Rovers have snapped up Switzerland international Johann Vogel on a free transfer.

Vogel has been training with Rovers for the past fortnight after leaving Spanish side Real Betis back in December.

He was linked with Sunderland earlier this year, but has now secured a contract with Mark Hughes' European hopefuls.

The 31-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal at Ewood Park, with the option of a further 12 months.

Subject to international clearance being received, Vogel could be in Blackburn's squad for this weekend's game with Wigan Athletic.

Vogel, who is likely to play for co-hosts Switzerland at Euro 2008, numbers PSV Eindhoven and European champions Milan among his former clubs.
