Vaughan: Successful knee op

Everton striker James Vaughan is hoping to return to action before the end of the season after undergoing a successful knee surgery.

Vaughan travelled to America earlier this month and underwent surgery to correct a cartilage problem in his left knee.

Everton boss David Moyes feared the surgery would rule out Vaughan for the remainder of the campaign, but the 19-year-old remains hopeful of returning to fitness sooner than expected.

Good spirits

"I'm in very good spirits," Vaughan told the Liverpool Daily Post. "I know I've got to work really hard and that it's a bad time for it to happen to me but I'm ready to just get on with it.

"I knew I was in good hands going to see Dr Steadman because he's seen me before.

"I can do quad sets and I will be able to do some upper-body stuff with weights."
