Taylor: Embarrassed

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has revealed he cannot even bring himself to look at the Premier League table.

Kevin Keegan's return to the club has brought just three points from eight league games as the Toon Army have seen their beloved team slide towards the drop zone.

The England U21 captain admits there are 'no excuses' for the Magpies' current situation as they sit just four points above the relegation places.

Tough

He told the Daily Star: "I hate where we are in the table. I can't even look because it's that embarrassing.

"It's tough being down at the bottom end and none of us finds it acceptable.

"There are no excuses. We deserve to be where we are. I don't think we have had much luck, but that hasn't been the reason for our poor results."

Focus

Newcastle go in search of their first win in 14 league games when they entertain fellow strugglers Fulham at St James' Park on Saturday.

And Taylor is going into the game with optimism, taking positives from their second half performance in Monday night's 1-1 draw with Birmingham.

"After Birmingham, the boss said the last 45 minutes is how we should be playing every week," he continued.

"Now we have to focus on Fulham and make sure it's a display which makes the supporters proud and sends them home with three points.

"It's a massive game and anything else is unacceptable."
