Ryan Giggs is looking forward to facing Liverpool in what he accepts is still one of the biggest games of the season for Manchester United.

United are aiming to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League table but Giggs is wary of the threat posed by Liverpool.

The Welshman feels the local rivalry between the clubs adds an intensity to the game and does not think it is possible to pick a favourite based on recent form.

"No matter how the teams are doing, no matter what kind of side we've got and they've got, this fixture's the test - mentally and physically," Giggs told The Sunday Times.

Rivalry

"We have big games all the time these days with the Champions League, but this is the local rivalry, the test."

"I think the fixture's as intense as it ever was. The foreigners who come to United soon realise this is a big game, in many people's eyes the biggest of the season."

Giggs realises that United's fate is in their own hands with just eight games of the Premier League season remaining, and has urged his team-mates to keep their eyes fixed on the goal of winning the title.

He explained: "With any run-in it's about momentum and focus.

"Once you get into single figures - I think we've got eight games left - you say to yourself 'right, every game we need to prepare right, you need to be focused and you will get the benefits."
