Schuster: Staying put

Ramon Calderon has assured Bernd Schuster that he will remain as coach even if Real Madrid fail to win the Spanish league title this season.

Fabio Capello was sacked last summer despite leading Real to their first league title in four years.

Real's defence has gone well this season and they are currently four points clear of rivals Barcelona with nine games remaining.

However, their recent form has been less than impressive and the Spanish media has reported that Schuster's job would be under threat if Real do not finish top.

Schuster, though, has been told by president Calderon that he will stay in charge regardless of what happens over the next two months.

"A little while ago Ramon Calderon told me that even if we didn't win the league I would stay on at Real Madrid because this is a project and we are building a team," Schuster told Radio Marca on Thursday.

"We still have to complete the second phase of building a team this summer and I'm convinced that we will do it with the league title under our belts.

"I enjoy the full confidence of my president and I don't need anything more."
