Eastwood: Took his chance

John Toshack has hailed Freddy Eastwood's performance in Wales' 2-0 win over Luxembourg on Wednesday.

The Wolves striker grabbed both goals in the friendly encounter and looked lively throughout the contest despite a lack of first-team action for his club.

The former Southend hit man has not started a domestic game since Christmas and has recently admitted that he may be forced to leave Molineux in his quest for a regular starting spot.

However, his national coach has never lost faith in his ability and was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the forwards performance.

Positives

"I was pleased with the result and pleased with Eastwood," said the Wales boss.

"We had a few players like him who were short of match fitness out there, we have had to do that with so many players missing.

"But despite that there were plenty of positives, and he was one of them.

"Some players don't take their opportunity when it is presented, but Freddy has done just that.

"There are still aspects of his game that can be improved, we want him to release the ball quicker when we are moving forward."

Competition

But Toshack added: "I have to say 'well done' to him. He has not had much action at Wolves, I doubt he has completed 90 minutes in months.

"But when he had the chance to pull on the Wales jersey, he gave everything and scored two well taken goals.

"It will have done him no harm to have played a full match. There is plenty of competition for places up front at Wolves, and this performance will do his confidence a world of good."
