Mifsud: Uncertain future

Michael Mifsud hopes his five goals for Malta on Wednesday will help him fire Coventry to Championship safety.

The striker hit a hat-trick inside 21 minutes and added two more goals in the second half as Malta recorded a 7-1 friendly victory over Liechtenstein.

And Mifsud, who has not scored for Coventry in the league since netting two in a 4-2 victory over West Brom on 4th December 2007, is now keen to take his international form into the weekend meeting with Plymouth at the Ricoh Arena.

Coventry sit 20th in the Championship and are facing a fight to avoid the drop, but Mifsud is confident he and his team-mates posses the necessary quality to secure safety.

"It is always nice to hit the net and scoring five is very good," Mifsud told Sky Sports News. "It boosts my confidence back up for Saturday.

"We have a good squad. We have a very strong squad and very good players.

Future

"We have played really well as a team and so I don't think we deserve to be at the bottom of the table. Hopefully we will get a couple of wins and we will stay up."

However, Mifsud - who was targeted by a number of clubs in the January transfer window - has hinted he could leave Coventry if they are relegated and has admitted a desire to play in the Premier League.

"I don't know," said Mifsud when asked if he will remain with the Sky Blues next season. "I am happy at Coventry.

"Obviously I would like to play in the Premier League and I am very hungry."
