Huntelaar: At the double for Ajax

PSV Eindhoven were held to a goalless draw by NEC Nijmegen, allowing Ajax to narrow the gap at the top to five points with a 4-2 victory at Heerenveen.

PSV Eindhoven's level has dropped in recent weeks and they were frustrated by an NEC Nijmegen side that had been on a five-match winning run.

Ajax took full advantage with a thrilling win over third-placed Heerenveen.

Luis Suarez set them on their way to three points by breaking the deadlock after 44 minutes, and Kenneth Perez made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after 55 minutes.

Miralem Sulejmani pulled one back for Heerenveen on the hour mark but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar restored Ajax's two-goal lead just a minute later.

Huntelaar grabbed his second of the game on 89 minutes, but there was still time for Danijel Pranjic to hit home for Heerenveen.

Excelsior won the relegation six-pointer against VVV Venlo 2-1 but it was not enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.

Karim Soltani put VVV ahead after 10 minutes but Excelsior came storming back through Muhammet Demir (78) and Robert Braber (80).

Heracles Almelo and Roda JC played out a goalless draw in the day's fourth game.
