David Moyes has refused to criticise Phil Neville's reaction to being substituted in the Merseyside derby.

The Everton skipper was less than amused when he was withdrawn with 18 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at Anfield still remaining, and made his feelings known as he left the field.

He first snatched a tracksuit top off a member of the Toffees coaching staff, before marching furiously away to take his seat in the stand.

However, he did take the time to shake hands with his manager on his way past, and Moyes feels that his captain was just venting his frustration on a difficult day all round for the blue half of the city.

Attitude

"Neville's withdrawal was tactical, he wasn't injured," said the Scot.

"He was just disappointed with the way the game had gone, and he showed it.

"I have no problem with that attitude.

"He was fine with me and just upset with the way the game had gone. I understand that, he shook my hand and I have no problem with him being upset about things."

Illness

Moyes also confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe requires further tests in order to establish the best course of action for dealing with a mystery illness he picked up while on international duty last Wednesday.

"We think he has picked up something while he was away with Nigeria," said the Everton boss.

"He is still ill; having tests in hospital."
