Diomansy Kamara is convinced Fulham's battle against relegation is not over, with self-belief the key to averting a crisis at Craven Cottage.

Fulham face an uphill task to stay up after Saturday's 2-2 draw with relegated Derby left them six points adrift of safety.

Just six matches remain to beat the drop starting with Saturday's must-win clash with Sunderland - a fixture Kamara is approaching with confidence.

But the Senegal striker admits as soon as he leaves the Craven Cottage pitch, he will be seeking news on events elsewhere in the Premier League.

"Six points might look like a lot but if we win and Birmingham lose, it goes down to just three points," said Kamara.

Belief

"We need belief and confidence. We need to win on Saturday and then we can look at Birmingham's result.

"When our games are over I'm always looking for the other results - Birmingham, Wigan or Bolton.

"We need to get three points behind Birmingham. Their next game against Wigan won't be easy and then they have Everton so we need to believe in ourselves.

"Sunderland are a very good team. I played against them last season when I was at West Brom.

"They are very strong - I watched them win their last game against West Ham and they're a very good side.

"But with six games left we need to win at home and then beat Reading.

"We need to be strong. I remember last year West Ham and two years ago West Brom stayed up. Now we need to believe in ourselves."

Mixed emotions

Kamara admits the joy at his goal against Derby - his first for Fulham since November - was blunted by the disappointment of drawing.

The 27-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the side since his £6million move from West Brom last summer but is determined to figure prominently during the run-in.

"It's nice to score but it's no good when you score and the team doesn't win," he said.

"But I hope to score more in the last six games. The manager is happy, I'm fit and he said that it was a good performance from me which I'm very happy about."
