Gary McAllister has insisted he had no hesitation in signing a new contract at Leeds.

McAllister was appointed Leeds manager in January but only put pen-to-paper on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Results on the pitch were not impressive initially but Leeds are now back in the race for promotion and McAllister is confident of going up via the play-offs.

The former Liverpool midfielder has signed a new 12-month rolling contract at Elland Road and he is proud to be in charge of the club.

"When I arrived here it was a three-and-a-half month contract and the job brief was simple - get us moving forward and get us out of this league," McAllister told Sky Sports News.

Faith

"We're nudging closer to that. We're just outside the play-offs with a game in hand and we want to be in the shake-up there.

"I'm very honoured to have accepted another year's contract. It took me all of two seconds to say yes.

"There wasn't a great deal of negotiation. It was a show of faith by the club."

There has been some speculation that McAllister was only offered a short-term deal originally in case he became a target for other clubs, but he maintains that Leeds had nothing to fear.

He said: "I certainly haven't been looking elsewhere. I've been completely focused on winning matches for Leeds.

"There's not many bigger clubs than this."
