Harry Redknapp admits he is baffled why former Portsmouth goalkeeper Dean Kiely is still upset by his exit from Fratton Park.

Kiely spent 12 months with Pompey before joining West Bromwich Albion in January last year after Redknapp signed England No.1 David James.

In the build-up to West Brom's FA Cup semi-final with Portsmouth on Saturday, Kiely has been commenting on his treatment on the South Coast.

But Pompey boss Redknapp believes the 37-year-old needs to move on and accept players get shipped out to different clubs.

"Dean seems to be upset, I don't know why - it's football isn't it?" Redknapp told The News.

Nonsense

"I took him from Charlton when he was pretty much written off. He couldn't get a game and did a good job for us.

"Then David James became available. When suddenly the best goalkeeper in the country becomes available I had to take him.

"Dean's now making all sorts of remarks and it's all nonsense.

"What are you supposed to do? I like him, so I'm going to keep him here for the next 10 years because he's a nice bloke? It doesn't work that way.

"I don't know why people just don't get on with things. That's life isn't it? You move on.

"I bring Sol Campbell in, he takes someone else's place. I bring Sylvain Distin in and he takes someone's place. That's football, that's how it goes.

"You're looking to keep on pushing forward and keep improving."
